Jaguar XJ gets more efficient and luxurious for 2016

Jaguar has revealed an updated version of its XJ luxury saloon, featuring new styling touches, new gadgetry and a new range-topping model plus an upgraded diesel engine. Pricing for the revised XJ line-up starts at £58,690 and it will launch in Britain during this autumn.

A rival to the Mercedes S-Class and BMW 7 Series, the updated Jaguar XJ remains available in both short and long wheelbase form. It receives new LED headlights plus unique double J-Blade daytime running lights.

Inside, meanwhile, updates include improved leather trim and a new InControl Touch Pro infotainment system. The latter includes sat-nav, Wi-Fi connectivity and supports connectivity with Apple and Android smartphones.

In regards to engines, the XJ’s 3.0-litre V6 diesel has also been improved, with its output increasing from 275bhp to 296bhp yet CO2 emissions are also reduced from 159g/km to 147g/km. The XJ’s two petrol engines, which include the 335bhp 3.0-litre V6 and the 5.0-litre V8 with 503bhp or 542bhp, are both unchanged.

With the aim of enhancing the driving experience, Jaguar has also announced a new electric power steering system will be used for the updated XJ range.

Two new trims also join the existing models for the XJ, one of which is called R-Sport. It’s available in short wheelbase form only and with either the 3.0-litre diesel or petrol units. Pricing for the R-Sport begins at £71,625 and it brings some sporty design changes such as a rear spoiler and sports seats.

The other new trim is situated right at the top of the XJ range and is called Autobiography. Available for the long wheelbase only, this trim is priced from £80,250 when picking the 3.0-litre diesel or £100,000 when using the 5.0-litre V8. The latter price makes it more expensive than the V8-run XJR model, which is priced at £92,405.

Autobiography XJs feature quilted leather seats, 20-inch alloys and a bespoke rear entertainment system supported by two 10.2-inch HD screens.
