Land Rover Defender confirmed for Frankfurt Motor Show unveil

The eagerly-awaited 4x4 is being unveiled next month.

Land Rover has finally confirmed the unveil date for its eagerly-awaited all-new Defender – September 10.

The new Defender has big boots to fill, as its replacing a model that was the iconic Land Rover for nearly 70 years.

Production of the last Defender ended in January 2016, and since then Land Rover has been rigorously developing the new model – previewing, teasing and showing heavily camouflaged versions of this important new car.

It has also been spied testing on the scene of the new James Bond film, No Time to Die.

But Land Rover will finally take the covers off the production version at the Frankfurt Motor Show, which opens to the public on September 12.

It has been tested in locations such as Kenya, Death Valley in the USA and Kazakhstan, and seen in a number of guises already – including short- and long-wheelbase forms. It’s expected to move upmarket and more in-line with other Land Rover products, yet retain the Defender’s unrivalled off-road ability.

A range of petrol and diesels are set to be offered, alongside a new plug-in hybrid powertrain, although the specs are yet to be confirmed.

Land Rover has also established that order books will open next month when the model is unveiled, too, while a public livestream from Frankfurt will also be available.
