Leicester City footballers get a free BMW i8 from club owners

19 players who helped guide Leicester City to its shock Premier League title victory earlier this year have been treated to a free BMW i8 by the club's owners.

Following their remarkable win of the Premier League title back in May, players at Leicester City Football Club have each been treated to a BMW i8 by the club’s owners.

A fleet of 19 brand-new i8s were delivered to the King Power Stadium where Leicester play, to be awarded to those that helped the club to title success last season.

Leicester City defied the odds massively during the last Premier League season when they outperformed bigger and richer competitors with a squad lacking in major superstars.

But, if Leicester’s plucky league-winning players thought the congratulations were finally over, the team’s owners have certainly proven them wrong.

The BMW i8s, which are all blue and cost from £104,540, were bought by the Thai-led consortium which owns Leicester City, which is run by chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha.

Buying as many as 19 BMW i8s would cost you nearly £2 million, but considering the club’s chairman has an estimated worth of around £1.15 billion, the expenditure is likely considered trivial by his standards.

Still, even though it’s common for Premier League footballers to own glamorous sports cars, it’s extremely rare to see so many players at once receive such prestigious cars.

A full list of the 19 players that received a free i8 has not been published. One man who has likely missed out is French midfielder N’Golo Kante because although he played a key role in Leicester’s title success, he has since moved to Chelsea Football Club.

Boasting 357bhp from its petrol-electric powertrain, the technologically-advanced BMW i8 can cover the 0-62mph sprint in just 4.4 seconds before going on to a top speed of 155mph.
