Lexus LC F super grand tourer coming in 2018

The upcoming Lexus LC luxury coupe is set to add a F performance model next year, as the model name has been trademarked by Toyota, the owners of Lexus.

The upcoming Lexus LC grand tourer coupe is set to add a hardcore F performance derivative by 2018.

Lexus will launch the LC luxury car to the UK market during the second half of this year, and it will rival the likes of the BMW 6 Series, Maserati GranTurismo and Bentley Continental GT.

From its initial launch, the LC will be available in LC500 and LC 500h derivatives. The latter is a hybrid model featuring a 354bhp 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine, mated to an electric motor and ten-speed automatic gearbox. The other LC model ignores hybrid technology and uses a 467bhp V8 engine.

Since it was first revealed, there has been speculation as to whether the new Lexus LC will follow a similar path to the likes of the RC and GS and add a ‘F’ performance derivative.

Such plans now appear to be confirmed as it has emerged that Toyota, which owns the Lexus brand, has recently applied to trademark the name LC F.

Right now, it’s unclear what sort of powertrain an LC F model could use, but it could potentially be a hybrid in similar fashion to the LC 500h specification, albeit with more power than that or the non-hybrid LC500.
