Lexus to unveil its first Electric car later this month

The new model is set to be a small SUV.

Lexus has confirmed that it will unveil its first electric car later this month at the Guangzhou Motor Show in China.

The brand was one of the first to offer widespread hybrid powertrains across its range, with the majority of its line-up only being offered with electrified powertrains. Only the RC and LC that are available with petrol engines.

As with sister brand Toyota, Lexus has been slow to venture into the world of EVs, but it will unveil its first one on November 22 in China.

Lexus has revealed very few details on the new model – we don’t even know what it will be called – but it’s expected to sit on the TNGA underpinnings, which is the platform used for the Lexus UX and Toyota C-HR.

It’s rumoured that the model will be an all-electric version of the UX – Lexus’s smallest SUV that debuted last year.

Lexus has said that the model has been “specially crafted to suit the needs and audiences in China and in Europe”, too.

The Japanese firm recently unveiled a bold EV concept called the LF-30, which aims to preview of where Lexus is heading with its EVs. However, this upcoming production version is not expected to benefit from this concept.
