Maserati has revealed the new Ghibli Hybrid – the first electrified model in its 105-year history.
The Ghibli saloon sits below the Quattroporte in Maserati’s range, and offers a more stylish alternative to the likes of the Audi A6 and BMW 5 Series. It’s been around since 2013, and in that time more than 100,000 versions have been produced.
And now it’s set to be the first Maserati to feature electrification, with the Ghibli now available with mild-hybrid powertrains.
This sees a 2.0-litre petrol engine mated to a 48-volt alternator and additional electric supercharger. The engine produces 325bhp and 450Nm of torque – allowing for a 0-60mph time of 5.5 seconds and a top speed of 158mph.
Alongside the new powertrain, which is set to replace the diesel, Maserati has also made light tweaks to its stylish saloon. Changes include new boomerang-shaped rear lights, which hark back to the firm’s classic models, along with a new grille. To emphasise its ‘Hybrid’ credentials, it also gains a host of blue accents – including on the brake callipers and side air ducts.
Elsewhere Maserati has improved the technology on the models, with the Ghibli Hybrid being the first of the firm’s models to come with ‘Maserati Connect’, which allows various remote services via a separate app.
It also comes with a new larger touchscreen, which has increased from 8.4 to 10.1 inches, and comes with a more user-friendly design, fresh graphics and additional voice services.
The Ghibli Hybrid is the first of several new models from Maserati, with the firm set to roll out mild-hybrid powertrains across its larger Quattroporte and Levante SUVs. Later this year the firm will introduce a new MC20 sports car, while the GranTurismo and GranCabrio are set to return next year as the firm’s first EVs.
