The Mazda CX-5 has achieved a new landmark, with its makers announcing that more than one million examples of the crossover car have been built since it first launched.
Mazda has revealed that the one-millionth CX-5 rolled off the assembly line back in April. Having only started production back in late 2011, the CX-5 has reached this production landmark in an impressively small amount of time, reflecting the car’s strong popularity since launch. In fact, of all the models made by the company, only the Mazda3 has reached the one million production landmark quicker.
Launched in British showrooms in early 2012, the CX-5 was the first production model to feature Mazda’s latest ‘KODO’ design language and the company’s efficiency-focused SKYACTIV driving technology. The CX-5 has gone on to sell over 19,000 units in Britain since its debut. Updated with a facelift and equipment enhancements earlier this year, the CX-5 is currently priced from £22,295.
The programme manager for the CX-5, Masashi Otsuka, commented: “I would like to express my gratitude to the people all over the world who have appreciated and supported the CX-5. We are committed to continue enhancing this model into the future to ensure that it remains a popular choice among people with active lifestyles and will appeal to even more customers.”
Later this year, Mazda is expanding its crossover selection with the launch of the all-new CX-3. Smaller but featuring similar styling and technology to the CX-5, the new CX-3 will go on sale in Britain on 19th June 2015. Pricing for the CX-3 will start from £17,595.
