McLaren has begun production of its new Sport Series family of cars at its Production Centre in Woking. This new production run includes the 570S Coupe, the first car to be launched in the Sports Series.
The 570S will then be followed by the 540C Coupe and another bodystyle in 2016 – potentially a convertible version of the 570S. The first example of the 570S Coupe has already rolled off the production line and been delivered to a UK retailer.
McLaren says that the global retailer network is holding over 1,000 orders for the 570S Coupe. The two models which currently make up the Sports Series are the most affordable cars to enter the McLaren product range.
Above Sports Series is the Super Series, featuring the 650S range and 675LT, as well as the Ultimate Series, which includes the P1 and P1 GTR hypercars.
McLaren says that when the Sports Series family is complete by 2018, it forecasts annual production will more than double to over 4,000 cars per year.
An Executive Director at McLaren Automotive, Jolyon Nash, said: “In our short history, we have produced a range of supercars and hypercars targeted at a core, enthusiast buyer.
“Since 2011, our sales have increased year-on-year with corresponding developments in revenues and profits. The Sports Series is targeted towards a new buyer and opens McLaren up to the sports car market that we have not served to date.”
The McLaren 540C Coupe is priced from £126,000, while the McLaren 570S Coupe is available from £143,250.
