McLaren previews upcoming Hyper-GT

The British supercar manufacturer confirmed that its upcoming hypercar will have a top speed in excess of 243mph – the top speed of the McLaren F1.

British manufacturer McLaren has confirmed that its yet unnamed ‘Hyper-GT’ will have a top speed upwards of 243mph – surpassing the brand’s fastest ever vehicle, the F1.

Codenamed the BP23, the hypercar will take inspiration from the legendary F1, as it comes with a three-seat layout like its predecessor and an impressive top speed.

The final name and design of the model will be unveiled before the end of 2018, and this petrol-hybrid-powered car will be McLaren’s most luxurious car yet.

Unlike most McLaren production models, the BP23 will get a bespoke name – like the recently unveiled Senna supercar – and will cost in excess of £1.6million.

All of these details were confirmed by McLaren Automotive’s CEO Mike Flewitt at the Geneva Motor Show, who said: “BP23 will borrow the three-seat layout with the central driving position made famous by the iconic McLaren F1, and it will be housed in a streamlined, shrink-wrapped carbon-fibre body of great elegance.

“We are calling BP23 a ‘Hyper-GT’ because it’s a car designed for longer journeys, but with the high levels of performance and driver engagement expected of any McLaren. A hybrid powertrain will make it one of the most powerful McLarens yet created, but the car will also deliver the highest levels of refinement, enabling significant journeys to be undertaken with up to three people aboard."

This model is going to be up against the likes of the Mercedes-AMG Project One and Aston Martin Valkyrie when all are produced in the next couple of years.
