Mercedes EQ C electric crossover teased

The all-electric model will be the debut for the EQ brand and will be revealed on September 4.

Mercedes has released teaser images of its upcoming all-electric crossover, the EQ C.

As the first model of the EQ sub-brand, the C will be the German manufacturer’s first battery-powered production car and will be revealed in full on September 4.

It will be unveiled in Stockholm, but only glimpses of the EQ C’s final design have been shown so far. The interior looks very similar to the rest of the current Mercedes range – including a dual-screen display for the instrumentation and infotainment.

The exterior, however, includes forward-looking elements, such as a light bar for the brake lights and indicators spanning the rear end, as well as a front light stretching from one side of the grille to the other. The rest of the body looks very simple otherwise, with a sloping roofline and small lip spoiler.

In fact, it looks much like the Concept EQ that was revealed at the 2016 Paris Motor Show and with that design expected to be the main inspiration behind the EQ C, it is predicted the production model will have a 311-mile range and upwards of 400bhp.

Mercedes is taking the initiative over German rival Audi, who will be revealing its own all-electric SUV – the e-tron – later this year. Jaguar’s I-Pace is also a strong contender in the electric premium crossover segment, with the British production model released earlier this year.
