MG5 unveiled as UK’s first electric estate car with 214-mile electric range

The new EV expands the firm’s electrified range

MG has unveiled the MG5 as its second EV, which joins the ZS EV in the manufacturer’s line-up.

The MG5 becomes the only new electric estate car you can buy today, and brings a decent electric range and affordable pricing range.

Featuring a different powertrain to the ZS EV, the new MG5 mates a 52.2kWh battery together with an electric motor producing 154bhp, with MG claiming it’s capable of a 214-mile electric range, which can increase to up to 276 miles in urban environments. Its battery can also be rapid charged to 80 per cent in 50 minutes, too.

Set to appeal to the fleet market with its low running costs and zero per cent benefit-in-kind percentage for company car drivers, the MG5 also features a 464-litre boot, which increases to 1,456 litres with the rear seats folded.

It’s available in two trim levels – Excite and Exclusive. Standard equipment is generous, and includes 16-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry and start, cruise control and an eight-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Upgrading to the Exclusive model brings leather upholstery, an electric driver’s seat, heated front seats satellite navigation.

Prices for the MG5 undercut those of the ZS EV, with models available from £24,495 and rising to £26,995 for the top-spec model – making it one of the most affordable electric cars available today. All versions also come with a seven-year warranty.

Order books are set to open next month, with first deliveries likely before the end of the year.
