Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV sales pass 10,000

Less than a year after its launch, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV has smashed through the 10,000 sales barrier in the UK. This means more have found customers than any other plug-in hybrid or electric model, despite some being on sale since 2011.

Customers have been won over by the PHEV’s all-electric range of 32.5 miles, meaning shorter trips use no diesel or petrol, instead relying on top ups from a home or public charging point. The PHEV is also road tax exempt thanks to its emissions of 44g/km of CO2, while it official fuel consumption figure is 148mpg.

The Outlander plug-in hybrid also owes some of its success to its £23,249 starting price (after a £5,000 government plug-in car grant), making it comparatively priced with a diesel Outlander.

Mitsubishi is having a good 2015, with its UK sales up 178 per cent in February 2015, compared with the same month last year. And, it’s not just the Outlander PHEV doing well, with sales of the ASX crossover up 92 per cent and even the ageing L200 pick-up 42 per cent ahead. The Shogun SUV has seen sales shoot up 77 per cent in the same month.
