New Mazda MX-5 prices confirmed as pre-orders begin

Pricing and specifications for the all-new Mazda MX-5 convertible have been announced. The much-anticipated sports car is available to pre-order now, ahead of its launch in Britain near the end of this summer, and it starts from £18,495.

The new generation of the MX-5 arrives ten years after its predecessor first launched, and expectations are high for the world’s best-selling sports car in history.

From launch, the new MX-5 will offer two SKYACTIV-G petrol engines, five trim levels and nine specifications in total.

Across all trim levels the new MX-5 can be chosen with either a 129bhp 1.5-litre engine or a 158bhp 2.0-litre unit. Both are hooked up to a six-speed manual gearbox and will cover the 0-62mph sprint in under nine seconds.

The 1.5-litre engine is more efficient and cleaner, emitting 139g/km compared to 161g/km for the 2.0-litre engine.

The trim levels start with SE, followed by SE-L (priced from £19,245), SE-L Nav (£19,845), Sport (£21,845) and Sport Nav (£22,445).

Standard featrues available on every new MX-5 model include 16-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, air conditioning and a radio/CD player with MP3, USB and iPod compatibility.

Following next is the SE-L trim, priced from £19,245, which adds more kit including LED daytime running lights, climate control, cruise control and a multimedia system with a seven-inch colour touchscreen display. The SE-L Nav trim, starting from £19,845, has all the same kit plus sat-nav.

The Sport trim, priced from £21,845, includes rear parking sensors, heated leather seat trim and a keyless entry system. The range-topping Sport Nav trim begins at £22,445 and has all the same kit as Sport plus sat-nav.

The new Mazda MX-5 will make its first public appearance in Britain on the 28th June at the 2015 Goodwood Festival of Speed.
