Renault has unveiled a revised version of its Megane hatchback and estate, which sees a new E-Tech plug-in hybrid being introduced to the range.
It’s already one of the most stylish models in its sector, so visual changes are relatively minimum. All models now benefit from LED headlights as standard, though, as well as a new front bumper and new scrolling rear indicators. Three new colours have also been introduced.
The interior has been enhanced with a new portrait 9.3-inch touchscreen, which was first seen on the new Clio. It also gains a digital cockpit, depending on trim level, which is a first for the Megane. Renault has also promised improved ergonomics and material quality, too.
One of the key differences, though, is a new E-Tech plug-in hybrid powertrain, as announced recently for the Captur. It sees a 1.6-litre petrol engine mated to a 9.8kWh battery and electric motor to produce 158bhp, with Renault claiming an electric range of around 31 miles.
A turbocharged 1.3-litre petrol engine remains available with outputs of 113bhp, 138bhp and 158bhp, with a 1.0-litre petrol unit set to join the range later. A 1.5-litre diesel unit with 94bhp or 113bhp also serves high-mileage drivers.
Renault has also ramped up the number of driver assistance features on the new Megane, too, including a new adaptive cruise control system with lane-centring technology, as well as a revised blind-spot monitoring system.
See Available Megane dealsSlight tweaks have been made to the trim line-up, too, with R.S. Line replacing GT Line as the sporty-looking version. The Renault Sport hot hatch has also been tweaked, with Renault axing the entry ‘280’ option, and both the regular RS and Trophy models now featuring a 296bhp 2.0-litre petrol engine. Tweaks to the engine mean the unit produces more torque than before.
The updated Megane arrives in showrooms in the summer, with a price increase expected over the current model’s £18,295 starting price.
