Nissan unveils radical new second-generation Juke crossover

The new Nissan Juke has become more grown up, more practical and more efficient.

Nissan has pulled the covers off its all-new Juke – a hugely important reinvention of a model that essentially created the small crossover segment we know today.

Known for its bold styling, Nissan has ensured this second-generation version remains just as stylish, but addresses the cons of the outgoing car – practicality and a lack of connectivity, for example.

Nissan is aiming for its new Sunderland-built crossover to once again shake-up this segment, with its striking V-Motion grille, 19-inch alloy wheels, standard-fit LED headlights and ‘floating roof’ design. Despite its new look, though, it’s still instantly recognisable as a Juke.

Nissan has also enhanced passenger room significantly – one of the biggest criticisms of the last car. With more knee- and headroom than before, it’s much better-suited to families, with the boot also being 20 per cent larger – now offering 422 litres of space.

One of the other prominent areas the Juke steps up to the mark is with technology. It introduces Nissan’s ProPilot’s semi-autonomous driver assistance feature to the Juke – first seen on the new Leaf, and recently offered on the Qashqai. It also offers an advanced blind spot monitoring system, which can prevent the car from changing lanes if it senses a vehicle is in the blind spot.

Elsewhere it features a new eight-inch touchscreen, along with the NissanConnect Services app, which allows drivers to check the status of their Juke remotely – looking at tyre pressures, for example, as well as the ability to lock and unlock the car through the app.

From launch, the Juke will only be offered with an efficient three-cylinder 1.0-litre petrol engine producing 115bhp – available with a six-speed manual gearbox or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Five trims are offered – Visia, Acenta, N-Connecta, Tekna and a newly-introduced Tekna+ grade. A launch ‘Premiere Edition’ is also an option on the first models, with prices starting from £17,395 and rising to £25,395.

The new Juke will arrive in Nissan showrooms at the end of November.
