Petrol engine added to Mitsubishi Outlander line-up

This is the third powertrain option for the Japanese SUV, which has previously been available with plug-in hybrid and turbo-diesel options.

Mitsubishi has introduced a petrol engine to the Outlander line-up, with prices for models starting from £27,680.

The 2.0-litre unit is paired to a CVT automatic transmission and electronically-controlled four-wheel drive, and produces 148bhp with 195Nm of torque. Wheel-mounted gear change paddles are also fitted for the option of ‘manual’ control.

The Drive Mode Selector allows the driver to choose between Eco, Auto and Lock modes, with the latter used for rough terrain and low-grip conditions.

All of the vehicles fitted with the petrol engine come with seven seats as standard, with the rearmost seats able to be flattened to accommodate a 502-litre boot. When all the back seats are folded down, the Outlander has 1,608 litres of rear loading space.

The Outlander has been refreshed for the 2019 model year, with the SUV given a new mesh front grille, new headlamps and front lower extensions, as well as a revised rear bumper and two-tone 18-inch alloys.

Inside, the model comes with improved noise insulation, all-round electric windows, additional support on the front seats and Mitsubishi’s newly-introduced smartphone link display system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Heated front seats, rear view camera and automatic lights and wipers are also standard.

Available in both the Juro and 4 trim levels, the top-spec version also gets leather seats, a 360-degree camera, a heated steering wheel, power tailgate, blind spot warning with rear cross traffic and LED lighting all around.
