Peugeot 2008 facelift unveiled

Peugeot has released images and details of its updated 2008 crossover, which will appear in public for the first time at next month’s Geneva Motor Show.

The Peugeot 2008 first arrived to the British market in 2013 where it has sold an estimated 40,000 units since. The updated version aims to keep the Peugeot fresh next to its competition which includes the likes of the Nissan Juke, Renault Captur and Vauxhall Mokka.

Design changes

Changes to the Peugeot 2008 for 2016 include a more SUV-like profile, other styling tweaks and a new range-topping trim. The updated 2008 sports extended wheel arches and scuff plates, along with a new vertical front grille and redesigned taillights. The new grille is very reminiscent of the current Peugeot 208 which was facelifted towards the end of last year.

Like other Peugeots, the updated 2008 has a GT Line trim which now serves as the range-topper above the existing Access, Active and Allure trims. When picking the new GT Line trim, the 2008 has a sportier look complete with unique alloy wheels and a gloss black finish replacing the regular chrome trim found on the grille surround, roof bars and fog light covers.

Inside, the Peugeot 2008’s cabin is mostly the same as before but total load capacity has improved from 1,194 litres to 1,400 litres. There’s also an additional 22 litres of storage space underneath the boot lid. The 2008’s seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system now supports Apple CarPlay and MirroLink functionality.

Engines and new safety gadgets

Like before, the Peugeot 2008’s engines include a 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol with outputs of 81bhp, 108bhp and 128bhp. There’s also a 1.6-litre BlueHDi diesel with outputs of 74bhp, 99bhp and 118bhp. The most efficient of the diesels officially averages 76.3mpg and emits just 96g/km of CO2.

The updated Peugeot 2008 retains the Grip Control traction system which allows drivers to adjust the car’s set-up to suit different types of off-road driving. New driving gadgets include Active City Brake, a sensor-based autonomous emergency braking system, and an autonomous Park Assist.
