Peugeot 3008 to be used to develop safer transport

Along with the Transport Research Lab, the 3008 will be used as a DigiCar to help make future transport safer.

Peugeot has given the Transport Research Lab (TRL) a new 3008 SUV that will be used as part of its new driving simulator, the DigiCar.

The hi-tech simulator will be used by the centre to further vehicle technology and develop safer transport for the future and the car will help with ground-breaking research into driver behaviour, smart motorway networks and driver assistance systems.

In the controlled environment of the DigiCar simulator, scenarios can be played over and over again so that accurate data can be collected and allow informed decisions to be made on future technology and government policies.

Ryan Robbins, TRL senior human factors researcher, said: “We are delighted that Peugeot could provide us with a brand new Peugeot 3008 SUV to form the basis of our brand new DigiCar simulator.

“We chose to use this car because of its popular interior layout and raised head up display, which makes it an ideal base for our simulator. It is a fantastic tool that ensures safer future transportation.”

David Peel, managing director at Peugeot UK, said: “Safety is a key consideration for Peugeot when designing our cars and our 3008 SUV is a clear reflection of that, incorporating innovative safety features and technologies.

“As a result, when TRL approached us to donate a vehicle to form the base of their new DigiCar, we were more than happy to provide a 3008 for that purpose. The purpose of the simulator fits perfectly with Peugeot’s commitment to safety and innovation in motoring. It is fantastic to know that one of our vehicles will be contributing towards ensuring the safety of future automotive developments, motoring networks and vehicle technologies.”
