Peugeot unveils retro-inspired e-Legend Concept

The autonomous all-electric model has a design that mixes classic Peugeot style with futuristic ideas.

Before its public debut at the Paris Motor Show next month, Peugeot has revealed its latest concept that is a “vision of future mobility”.

Called the e-Legend, the concept is autonomous and all-electric, yet carries over design inspiration from past Peugeot models – albeit with a modern twist.

Coming with four driving modes – two autonomous and two manual – the e-Legend, if produced, would give motorists choice.

Inside, Peugeot has fitted the concept with a 49-inch central screen as part of an advanced i-Cockpit design, as well as reclining chairs and an induction charging zone for phones and other devices.

For the autonomous driving modes, Peugeot offers the comfort-focused Soft and Sharp options – with the latter aimed at keeping drivers connected and allowing for social networking and online interaction on the go.

The Legend driving mode gives the driver a simple three-dial display and a wood-effect background on the screens, while the Boost option is more driver-focused and gives a full view of the road ahead on the large screen.

Peugeot gives the e-Legend an artificial intelligence, voice-activated assistant to help control the vehicle’s infotainment and settings for ease-of-use.

Powering the concept is a 100kWh battery that is connected to the motor to produce 456bhp and 800Nm of torque – leading to a 0-60mph time of less than four seconds and a top speed of 136mph.

Peugeot claims it would have a range of 372 miles and can be charged up from flat to 310 miles of range in just 25 minutes through wireless charging.

Jean-Phillipe Imparato, Peugeot chief executive officer, said: “The Peugeot e-Legend concept is not just a technological manifesto. This is the vision of a brand actively focused on an optimistic and ultra-desirable future. For Peugeot, autonomy and electric are synonymous with even stronger sensations. Boredom will never be part of our DNA.”

The e-Legend will be on display at the 2018 Paris Motor Show, which is open to the public from October 4 to 14.
