Porsche unveils new Cayenne Coupe

With the standard SUV well-established in the Porsche line-up, the Coupe comes with a more sloping rear roofline.

Porsche has taken the covers off the all-new Cayenne Coupe.

Adding a second model to the Cayenne line-up, Porsche has joined the niche coupe-SUV segment alongside offerings from Mercedes, Audi and BMW.

Taking most of the design elements from the standard model, the Coupe comes with a sloping roofline at the rear alongside a steeper windscreen and a tapered rear end to make it distinctly different from the standard model.

The Coupe also comes with two spoilers – one at the end of the roofline plus adaptive element on the boot lip.

Porsche has also modified the chassis for improved dynamism, while two engines are offered with the Coupe – a 335bhp 3.0-litre V6 petrol and the Turbo version which uses a 4.0-litre turbocharged V8 that develops 542bhp, with the latter capable of 0-60mph in under four seconds and a top speed of 178mph.

The German firm has also removed one of the rear seats from the standard Cayenne and has instead gone for two rear seats with a central armrest – with the back row also lowered by 30mm compared to the normal Cayenne to negate the sloping roofline.

Customers can also choose from two roof options – a fixed panoramic sunroof or a carbon fibre panel.

On revealing the model, Detlev von Platen, board member for sales and marketing at Porsche, said: “The Panamera, Macan and Cayenne… are the sportiest option in their respective segments – and they carry the genes of the Porsche 911. That’s why Porsche is clearly perceived as a sports car brand.

“We want to appeal more strongly to new, younger target groups with the Cayenne Coupe. These groups value exclusivity and an expressive lifestyle and have a very performance-oriented mentality.”

Going on sale in May, prices for the Cayenne Coupe will start at £62,129, with the range-topping Turbo available from £104,729.
