Vauxhall has revealed pricing for the new flagship Insignia GSi, which is set to revive the brand’s nostalgic performance nameplate.

Available in both saloon and estate forms, the sports model will be available from £33,375 when it arrives in showrooms in March 2018.

Under the bonnet, there’s a choice of two engines, with both coupled to an eight-speed automatic transmission. First is a 2.0-litre petrol unit, which develops 256bhp and 400Nm of torque, producing CO2 emissions of 197g/km with fuel economy claimed at 23.8mpg. The petrol saloon does the 0-60mph sprint in 6.9 seconds and is capable of reaching 155mph.

A diesel motor is also available — a 2.0-litre twin turbocharged unit. Full performance figures for this engine have yet to be revealed, but Vauxhall has confirmed it produces 207bhp and 480Nm of torque, with CO2 emissions of 192g/km.

To separate the GSi from the rest of the Insignia range, visual tweaks include chrome air intakes, re-profiled bumpers and a rear spoiler for saloon models.

Inside the range-topping vehicle are full leather front sports seats, aluminium pedals, an eight-inch infotainment system, a heads-up display and a Bose sound system.

There’s also a choice of driving modes for the Insignia GSi, which changes the car’s damping, steering, traction control settings and gear change points depending on the type of driving the user desires.

The GSi badge last made an appearance on a Vauxhall in 2002 on the Vectra C — meaning a 16-year comeback by the time the Insignia comes to market.
