Rally legend takes delivery of special edition Mini named after him

The Mini Paddy Hopkirk Edition brings a range of rally-inspired touches

Rally driver Paddy Hopkirk has collected one of the first new Mini Cooper S limited-edition models named in his honour.

Designed to commemorate the Northern Irish driver’s triumph at the 1964 Monte Carlo Rally in a classic Morris Mini Cooper S Mk1, the British brand has showcased a special-edition version of its three-door Cooper S hatch.

Speaking of getting his car, Hopkirk said: “I’m so flattered to have a Mini named in my honour. Motorsport is long behind me now and for my win at the Monte Carlo Rally to be remembered in this way is a great thrill and honour.

“The designers at MINI have done a wonderful job. They’ve got a lot of the features on it just like the classic Mini I took to victory, with the number 37, the bonnet stripe and the colours – it reminds me of my very lucky days and wonderful memories.”

Available now and limited to just 100 units, the special-edition model comes painted in Chili Red with a contrasting white roof, along with the famous ‘37’ livery. It also comes with 17-inch John Cooper Works alloy wheels, along with a range of gloss black detailing. It also features Hopkirk’s signature on the bonnet stripe, along with ‘Paddy Hopkirk Monte Carlo’ badging. A special key and unique side scuttles also feature.

It also offers an enhanced specification as ‘Comfort’ and ‘Mini Navigation’ packs are both included.

The Paddy Hopkirk Edition comes with a 176bhp 2.0-litre petrol engine, and is offered with both a manual or automatic transmission. Prices start from £28,200.
