The carmaker’s newest model scores well thanks to a raft of safety systems and a strong platform structure

The Range Rover Velar has scored an impressive five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP, following a stringent set of tests to ensure the vehicle’s protection capabilities.

It joins the three other Range Rover models with a top mark from the European authority thanks to its large line-up of safety systems and excellent crash structure integrity.

The Velar scored 94% for adult protection, 85% for child occupant safety and 74% for pedestrian protection. The safety system rating was 72%, meaning an average score of 84% - making it one of the safest SUVs on sale.

Using a range of cameras and sensors, the Velar is one of the most high-tech Jaguar Land Rover models on sale. It utilises the camera and sensors in safety systems such as autonomous braking with pedestrian detection and rear traffic detection.

Other systems like lane keep assist, driver condition monitor, intelligent speed limiter and traffic sign recognition are the other highlights, and they are constantly monitoring the world around the car to ensure you stay on the road and in the best condition.

Managing director of Jaguar Land Rover Jeremy Hicks said: “For Velar customers, only the best is good enough and we are delighted the fourth Range Rover has been awarded five-star safety credentials. This, combined with excellent residual values and stunning design really set Velar out as a car that appeals to the heart and the head."

Euro NCAP added: “Tests of the autonomous emergency braking system at highway speeds demonstrated good performance, with collisions avoided or mitigated in all tests. In both the side barrier test and the more severe side pole impact, protection of all critical body areas was good and the Range Rover Velar scored maximum points.”

The Range Rover Velar starts from £44,830.
