Renault Alpine reveal date announced

Renault has confirmed on Twitter it will reveal a new Alpine sports car model on 16 February.

A new Renault Alpine sports car is set to be revealed on 16 February, prior to its first public appearance at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show next month. The reveal date has been confirmed via teaser images which have been posted on the Renault Alpine Twitter account.

New Alpine details

Renault last unveiled an Alpine sports car back in June last year, the Alpine Celebration Concept which appeared at Le Mans and the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The new model set to be revealed later this month is set to be our first proper look at the first production model under Renault’s relaunched Alpine sub-brand. This first model will reportedly be called the AS1, although the name A120 has also been rumoured.

Although the teaser images give no indication as to what the new Alpine sports car will look like, online reports say it will carry over many of the design features found on the Celebration Concept.

Rumoured engines

Last year’s Alpine concept was a sleek two-door coupe model which had various design features which paid tribute to original Alpine sports cars from the sixties and seventies.

According to online reports, the first of the new Alpine production cars will be powered by a 1.8-litre petrol engine as standard, producing around 250bhp. The car will weight roughly about the same as a Toyota GT86. A Renaultsport version of the new Alpine model is also rumoured, with an increased power output of over 300bhp.
