Renault has revived the Koleos name for a new large SUV which has been presented at this year’s Beijing Motor Show and will go on sale in the UK in 2017.

The Koleos will sit above both the compact Captur and the Kadjar in Renault’s line-up of SUV models. Whereas the Kadjar is based on the same platform as the Nissan Qashqai, the Koleos shares a platform with the larger Nissan X-Trail.

Therefore, the Koleos will rival the likes of the Kia Sorento, Honda CR-V, Ford Edge and Hyundai Santa Fe.

Renault previously used the name Koleos for an SUV model that was sold in Britain between 2008 and 2010.

New Koleos engines

Engines for the new Renault Koleos include two petrol units and two diesels, with outputs ranging between 128bhp and 173bhp. A six-speed manual gearbox and CVT automatic ‘box will be available. The car will also be available with front or four-wheel drive powertrains.

With a four-wheel drive set-up, drivers will be able to switch between front and four-wheel drive to suit the conditions the car is currently driving through.

While the next-generation Megane is expected to receive a hybrid variant at some point in the future, there are reportedly no plans to give the Koleos a similar specification.

Gadgets and safety

Renault has yet to reveal a finalised kit list for the Koleos but it’s confirmed the car will feature an R-Link 2 infotainment system. This can be set up in two ways, either with a seven-inch horizontal screen or an 8.7-inch vertical screen. Bluetooth, USB connectivity and voice recognition features are also expected to feature as standard.

Safety features for the new Koleos will reportedly include traffic sign recognition, blind spot detection, lane departure warning and a parking assist aid.
