Seat Arona scores strong in latest Green NCAP testing

Independent efficiency-testing board posts fresh round of results — with Seat’s hot crossover proving impressive.

Seat’s in-demand Arona crossover has posted an impressive score in the latest round of Green NCAP testing.

Supported by independent car safety board Euro NCAP, Green NCAP scrutinises cars in its own efficiency testing to provide a consistent, real-world reflection of fuel economy and emissions.

In its fresh batch of results, the Seat Arona ranked top — with four out of a maximum five stars. In 1.5-litre petrol form, it was praised for its ‘Clean Air’ score — taking 9.8 out of 10 in that particular category.

Though it was said to be adequate almost entirely across the board for its ‘Energy Efficiency’ score, a slightly below par rating in the high-load highway assessment means it just missed out on a fifth star overall.

Also tested here was a 2.0-litre diesel Skoda Octavia. This scored three stars across the board, helped by the addition of exhaust gas recirculation and selective catalyst reduction technologies.

Green NCAP also tested a Fiat Panda in bi-fuel form — a combination of compressed natural gas (CNG) and petrol. This fuel type is not offered in the UK, though it scored just two out of five stars in its assessment. It was, however, praised for a generously sized 35 litre fuel tank.
