Skoda hits 2,000,000 production landmark

A newly-built Kodiaq has become the two millionth Skoda to roll off the production line at the company's factory in Kvasiny, Czech Republic.

Skoda has reached a major milestone by building its two millionth car at its Kvasiny production plant in Czech Republic.

The plant in Kvasiny first opened more than eighty years ago, having being in operation since 1934. The factory did not start out making cars for the Skoda brand, instead it initially started out as a body shop for another Czech brand called JAWA.

The first Skoda model was built at Kvasiny in 1947, specifically an early incarnation of the Superb, and various other Skodas have been built at the facility in the following decades since.

Nowadays, the plant produces Skoda’s latest Superb, Yeti and Kodiaq family cars. The landmark two millionth production model built at the site is a white Kodiaq - the recently launched seven-seater SUV.

Over a quarter of a million Skodas per year to be built at plant

At the same time it celebrates its impressive production landmark, Skoda has highlighted its plans for production increase at the Kvasiny plant. Over the next few years, Skoda plans to increase the site’s production to 280,000 vehicles a year.

Skoda’s Board Member for Production and Logistics, Michael Oeljeklaus, said: "Kvasiny is a state-of-the-art production facility with a great tradition and an outstanding team. As an important cornerstone of Skoda’s production network, the Kvasiny plant will be making a key contribution to Skoda Strategy 2025.

"We will be investing heavily into the location, expanding Kvasiny into a competence centre for the production of SUV vehicles among other things."
