Smart announces pricing for new range of electric models

The brand now exclusively sells EVs.

Smart has announced prices and specs for its new range of ‘EQ’ electric city cars.

The manufacturer announced at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show that it was stopping selling its petrol-powered models in favour of a line-up purely consisting of electric cars – something the firm has specialised in for several years.

The same recognisable shape of the models remain, however they come with revised styling, further connectivity and an upgraded interior.

On offer as part of the ‘EQ’ are the two-seat Fortwo, available in Coupe and Cabrio guises, as well as the more practical four-seat Forfour.

Each option features a small 17.6kWh battery, which enables a limited range of 70 miles – meaning these electric models are really reserved for those driving around towns and cities. An 81bhp electric motor is fitted, too.

Four trim levels are available – the Passion Advanced, Pulse Premium, Prime Exclusive and Edition 1.

Models are equipped well as standard – featuring reversing parking sensors, a seven-inch touchscreen with satellite navigation and climate control.

Pulse Premium gains larger 16-inch alloy wheels, a reversing camera and a glass roof on the Coupe and Forfour models. Prime Exclusive then adds LED headlights, ambient interior lighting, heated seats and part-leather seats.

Fortwo models are also available in an ‘Edition 1’ trim, too. This adds gloss black styling, a Brabus bodykit and red accents.

Prices for the Fortwo start from £16,850, with the larger Forfour not being much more expensive at £17,285. With the Cabrio not being available in the entry-level trim, you have to upgrade to the Pulse Premium trim – meaning it starts from £20,420. All prices include a £3,500 electric car grant.

Order books for all versions are now open, with first deliveries expected in March.
