Tesla CEO Elon Musk joins Donald Trump’s advisory team

Elon Musk, the chief executive of electric car manufacturer Tesla, has joined US President-elect Donald Trump’s advisory board despite heavily criticising him during the election.

Musk was named as a member of Trump’s Strategic and Policy Forum on Wednesday, where he will join Uber CEO Travis Kalanick and Mary Barra, the CEO of General Motors.

The forum was put together earlier this month in order to provide economic advice to the President-elect and its members will frequently meet with Trump to share their experience and knowledge.

Prior to the election, the US’ tech industry was steadfastly opposed to Trump’s bid for President, particularly due to his anti-immigration rhetoric and his refusal to accept climate change.

However, following his shock election victory in November, the industry is now attempting to explore how best it can work alongside Trump and his team.

A range of top executives met with the President-elect at Trump Tower earlier this week, including Apple’s CEO Tim Cook, Amazon boss Jeff Bezos and Google founders Larry Page and Eric Schmidt.

During the election process, Musk was particularly critical of Trump, and stated that he strongly felt Trump was “not the right guy” to lead the US.
