Tesla iPhone case made from seats

You can now buy a slice of Tesla's craftsmanship for around £30, in the form of an iPhone case.

Tesla Motors has a reputation for doing things differently, and being a manufacturer of all-electric vehicles, Tesla is also known for being its pursuit of sustainable transportation.

But, building cars requires a lot of resources, and it can be hard to keep the process eco-friendly. As part of its efforts to reduce waste, you can now buy Tesla iPhone 6 and 6 Plus cases made not just from the same leather as Tesla vehicles, but from the actual waste offcuts left behind when preparing seats and interior trim pieces.

Costing from around £30, there’s also a slightly more expensive version available featuring slots for your bank cards or even a driving licence.

Unsurprisingly, phone cases are just the beginning of Tesla’s green ambitions. It’s currently constructing the Gigafactory in Nevada which will be able to produce more lithium ion batteries annually than were made in the entire world in 2013. Using renewable energy sources – including a huge solar-panel roof – the Gigafactory has the goal of offsetting the energy required for production.

Tesla is constructing the Gigafactory to support its planned production of 500,000 cars per year towards the end of the decade.
