The best new cars at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show

With this year’s Geneva Motor Show now open to the public, we take a look at the cars you should look at if you can make it to Switzerland.

The annual Geneva Motor Show is always a great time for vehicle manufacturers to show off their latest vehicles.

The 2019 edition of the event has brought up some truly excellent cars that will be on the road in the near-future – with some models to be released a little later.

With technology ever-advancing, this year’s show brought up some ground-breaking electric cars – while one looks to break the 300mph production car barrier. Here are our favourites from the show this year…

Pininfarina Battista

Built on the same chassis as the Rimac C Two, the all-electric Battista comes with a quoted 1,874bhp and a potential 0-60mph time of less than two seconds. If that wasn’t impressive enough, the top speed of the beautiful Battista is said to be more than 217mph – but if the Croatian Rimac is anything to go by, the Pininfarina could be capable of 250mph. It also comes with a 280-mile range from a single charge.

Koenigsegg Jesko

The Swedish speedsters Koenigsegg has revealed what could be the world’s first production car to break to 300mph-mark. The Jesko is named after the father of the company’s founder, Christan von Koenigsegg, and is set to take the fastest production car title from the brand’s own Agera RS, which set a top speed of 277mph. The 5.0-litre V8 on-board develops 1,262bhp and the Jesko costs an equally eye-watering £2m.

But it’s not all hypercars at Geneva, as Mazda unveiled its latest SUV – the CX-30. The coupe-like SUV goes up against the likes of the Ford Kuga, Seat Ateca and Peugeot 3008, and will feature the SKyActiv-X petrol engines that offer diesel efficiency with punchy performance.

Peugeot e-208

The French brand publicly unveiled its electric version of the new 208, which is due later this year. With a claimed 211 miles of range, the e-208 isn’t any less practical than its fuel-powered siblings thanks to clever packaging and it’s also set to come with some serious tech as standard.

Volkswagen ID. Buggy

Based on Volkswagen Group’s MEB electric platform, the ID. Buggy is a throwback to the Beetle-based dune buggies from the 60s, as customers can choose to buy just the chassis and make their own car on top of it. With seating for two and a rugged interior, it’s not out of the question people could be dune bashing in this EV in the future.

Bugatti La Voiture Noire

Here we have the world’s most expensive new car ever – La Voiture Noire. Translated as ‘the black car’, this one-off Bugatti is based on the Chiron and has a design inspired by the Type 57 SC Atlantic from 1938. Having been built for an ‘unnamed Bugatti enthusiast’, the price of this beauty is around £14m after tax.

Renault Clio

This French car is expected to be much more affordable, and even though it doesn’t look like much has changed with the Clio, Renault has done a fair amount to the supermini as it enters its fifth generation. A plug-in hybrid will join the standard range of combustion engines, while the interior is more futuristic than ever thanks to large displays and an improved infotainment system.

Aston Martin AM-RB 003

Although this isn’t its final production form – here is Aston Martin’s next hypercar. Following on from the Valkyrie and Valkyrie AMR Pro, the AM-RB 003 will also be developed in conjunction with Red Bull Advanced Technology and is also set to come with F1-inspired technology – including the V6 turbo hybrid engine that will sit in the middle of the chassis. It looks amazing, and will be the more powerful sibling of…

Aston Martin Vanquish Vision Concept

…the production version of this. Bringing back the Vanquish name in 2022, this will be Aston Martin’s first full production car to come with the engine mounted in the middle – meaning it will go up against the likes of Ferrari and Lamborghini. It looks remarkably similar to the 003, and so will the engine – as the V6 engine that will be built in-house at Aston Martin will be the same block used in the upcoming hypercar.

Honda E Prototype

The Japanese first European-bound electric vehicle is set to make its way onto the road by early 2020 – with customers able to order it by the end of the year. Coming with a claimed range of 124 miles, the E is set to be one of the most advanced city cars around, as it comes with cameras on the wings instead of mirrors and multiple screens mounted on the dashboard.

The smaller sibling of the e-tron SUV is set to make its mark in the next couple of years and it will come with a claimed range of 279 miles. Audi says that this e-tron will come with class-leading storage space and will offer more than enough performance – with a quoted 0-60mph time of 6.1 seconds.
