The manufacturers that offer the longest warranties

Having a strong warranty can bring added peace of mind with a new car purchase

Having a lengthy warranty in place can bring a real sense of calm with the purchase of a new car. With a warranty, you’re safe in the knowledge that any mechanical mishaps that aren’t your fault will be covered by the manufacturer, ensuring that you aren’t going to face hefty bills should something go wrong.

These days, some manufacturers offer seriously long warranties and many can be transferred to a new owner, boosting the value of your used car in the event of a sale. Here, we’re going to take a look at some of the longest warranties around.

SsangYong – Seven-year/150,000 miles

It's lesser-known SsangYong that actually offers the most generous warranty out of every car manufacturer in the UK, with the firm providing cover for seven years or 150,000 miles on its petrol and diesel vehicles. It makes the brand's models ideal for those doing plenty of miles, or that intend to keep their car a number of years.

SsangYong's range all revolves around SUVs and 4x4s, with its line-up including the Tivoli, Korando, Rexton and Musso pick-up. The warranty also covers many perishable parts like suspension bushings and joints, meaning that even components that usually wear out quicker are covered.

MG – Seven-year, 80,000 miles

MG currently offers a really comprehensive warranty package. It covers a seven-year period, but does have a mileage limit of 80,000 - but that will still be more than enough for most drivers.

In addition, this warranty can be transferred across owners, so you’re able to offer it if you come to sell the vehicle.

Kia - Seven-year/100,000 miles

Kia has a longstanding reputation when it comes to high-value warranties and it’s still the same to this day. All models in the firm’s range are currently covered by a seven-year or 100,000-mile warranty, making it one of the very best around.

For the first three months of the warranty, it goes up to unlimited mileage, dropping back to 100,000 miles in the remaining period.

Hyundai - Five-year/unlimited mileage

Hyundai is similar to Ssangyong’s warranty, with its five-year and unlimited mileage offering. Plus, it even covers high-performance N models, meaning that those who opt for these go-faster versions are still covered by a comprehensive warranty.

It also includes two years of coverage for the brakes and clutch.
