This is the all-new 2020 Volkswagen Caddy

The new model sits on an all-new platform and is loaded with technology

Volkswagen has unveiled its all-new Caddy – a model that is completely new from the ground up.

Based on the Volkswagen Group ‘MQB’ platform, the new Caddy promises to be safer, more connected and more stylish than before. Available as both an MPV and a van, this is the first all-new Caddy in 17 years.

While the shape of a van can’t be dramatically changed, Volkswagen has made the model bolder than before thanks to a colour-coded front grille, a sharper front end and larger vertical LED rear lights.

Buyers will also be available to benefit from electric sliding doors for the first time, while the MPV versions can also now be chosen with a panoramic sunroof. The model has been significantly updated elsewhere, too, with new technologies including keyless entry, a large touchscreen, digital dials and keyless entry. New connected services are also on offer thanks to the integration of an eSIM that allows for online functions and remote access through the ‘Volkswagen We’ app.

Safety has also been enhanced, which was one of the areas where the outgoing Caddy was lagging behind rivals. This fifth-generation van introduces six new driver assistance features – including trailer assist that can help with reversing, as well as side assist and rear traffic alert.

Just like the new Volkswagen Golf, the Caddy is set to adopt new trim level names – including ‘Caddy’, ‘Life’ and ‘Style’.

Revised TDI engines also feature in the new Caddy, which is expected to go on sale in the middle of the year.
