Time to get arrested: meet the Ford Focus RS police car

Ford has revealed a police car version of its Focus RS hot hatch which would surely leave criminal drivers feeling nervous should they encounter it. It has been used to recreate a stunt Ford organised exactly 30 years ago, which involved a police car version of the Ford RS200.

In the original stunt, Ford photographed a RS200 in a police livery which appeared to have pulled over a Ford Sierra RS Cosworth. This year, Ford has taken pictures showing its police Focus RS pulling over a Ford RS200.

Like with the original stunt, Ford has published a press release to accompany the photos and the wording of the press release is even very similar to the original.

In it, Ford say its police version of the Focus RS “could be voted a ‘stunning hit’ by expert traffic policemen lucky enough to get behind the wheel, and is sure to intimidate would-be speeders.”

Ford adds: “Law-breakers would be relieved to learn that, due to limited production numbers, Ford does not expect many police forces to offer a patrol car capable of catching anything on the road.”

While it’s unclear then whether any Focus RS models will be seen undertaking police work, it’s not that implausible given that police versions of the Ford Mustang have been seen in some UK communities.
