Volkswagen adds flagship V6 petrol engine to Touareg

The 335bhp unit is the new range topper ahead of the two V6 diesels and can get the large SUV from 0-60mph in 5.7 seconds.

Volkswagen has added a new range-topping petrol engine to its Touareg range, bringing a powerful option to the SUV line-up.

The new 3.0-litre V6 petrol slots in ahead of two V6 diesel engines that already feature in the Toaureg line-up – with the new unit developing 335bhp and 450Nm of torque.

As with the two diesel options, the V6 petrol is paired to the 4Motion all-wheel drive system and an eight-speed automatic transmission – allowing the SUV to get from 0-60mph in 5.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 155mph, making it the fastest option in the Touareg range.

With this unit on-board, VW claims the SUV can return 31mpg and CO2 emissions of 203g/km.

For improved handling, the Touareg is also fitted with a limited slip differential.

Brian Luckie, product manager, said: “The addition of a powerful petrol engine to the Touareg range now gives customers three options – the choice between one petrol and two diesel units ensures that there’s a Touareg for all customers.

“Being available in the same technology-packed specs as the existing range means that the Touareg’s long list of talents now includes the flexibility of being available in both petrol and diesel forms throughout the line-up.”

Prices for the V6 petrol Touareg start from £52,635 and customers are able to order the new variant now. Deliveries are set to begin in April.
