Volkswagen Amarok wins Pick-up of The Year at Towcar Awards

The pick-up wins its second towing award of the year, making it a successful year for the VW Commercial Vehicle

Volkswagen’s Amarok has won the Pick-up of the Year at the 2018 Caravan and Motorhome Club Awards.

Tested in the Highline trim with the 222bhp, V6 diesel engine and eight-speed automatic gearbox, the Amarok impressed the judges with its excellent driving feel and steadiness at the Milbrook Proving Ground, Bedfordshire.

The judges said: "Nudging £40K, the Amarok is a serious investment, but in return for your money you get a rugged, muscular utility vehicle that is anything but rough and ready.

“Pick-ups sometimes fall down on their handling, but not this one; the Volkswagen surprised all the judges at just how well it dealt with the hill route. Stability was excellent and its load-carrying capacity is to be envied."

After winning the best pick-up award at the Tow Car awards earlier this year, the latest generation Amarok has been received well since its release at the end of 2016.

Sarah Cox, VW Commercial’s head of marketing, said: "I’m delighted that the Amarok has added another award to its trophy cabinet, and by such a respected organisation as the Caravan and Motorhome Club.

“Once again, its unique combination of off-road capability with on-road manners, comfort and technology has been recognised as class-leading."

Amarok models start from £32,503 and is available in two trim levels – Trendline and Highline. As standard models come with climate control, a leather multifunctional steering wheel and 17-inch alloys, and all come with a variant of a 2.0-litre V6 diesel that can be paired with an eight-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission.
