Volkswagen announces pricing for new Multivan

New seven-seat MPV replaces the Caravelle

Volkswagen has announced pricing for its all-new Multivan, which is available from £43,160.

The Multivan is a replacement for the Caravelle – a model that was previously based on the Transporter van. However, despite its name, this new vehicle shrugs off its van roots as it sits on the same MQB platform as Volkswagen’s car range, such as the Golf and Tiguan.

It gives the Multivan access to a range of new technologies and safety equipment, not least features like Matrix LED headlights as well as a panoramic sunroof.

Two body styles will be offered – a standard version or a long wheelbase version, which is 20cm longer. Each offers fully flexible seating for up to seven, while because the rear seats are positioned on electrical runners, it means they can be heated for the first time.

From launch the Multivan is available with a 134bhp 1.5-litre petrol and a 201bhp 2.0-litre petrol, with both being paired to a DSG automatic gearbox – no manual Multivan will be offered. While diesel versions will be introduced later in 2022, a plug-in hybrid is also offered, a first for a Volkswagen commercial vehicle. Pairing a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor and 13kWh battery, it produces 215bhp in all and allows for an electric-only range of around 30 miles.

Prices start from £43,160 for a Life version, which comes as standard with 16-inch alloy wheels, digital dials, a 10-inch touchscreen and various pieces of safety technology.

The Style then brings electric sliding doors, an electric boot, park assist and Matrix LED headlights, and is priced from £58,130.

Volkswagen is also offering a launch edition known as the Energetic. Only available on the plug-in hybrid, it adds features like 18-inch alloy wheels, a Harmon Kardon sound system and a panoramic glass roof. It’s priced from £59,515.

The Volkswagen Multivan will be available to order in January, with first deliveries expected in March 2022.
