Volkswagen bucks UK trend as sales increase in September

The German carmaker sees a 7.74% growth compared to 9.27% decrease on general sales market

Volkswagen has seen more success in the UK this year as it now ranks second in sales and also bucked the UK trend with a 7.74 per cent growth in sales.

The German manufacturer now has an eight per cent market share, with the refreshed Golf ranking second in sales this month and the Polo compact hatchback ranking sixth. This also follows news that sales for the Golf GTE were up by 300 per cent compared to the same period last year.

This success is going against the general UK trend, which saw car sales fall by 9.27 per cent last month showing just how well Volkswagen has done in that time scale.

It has been a busy year for the carmaker, which released three new models this year – the Arteon, new Polo and T-Roc crossover – and will be offering even more in the coming months as the up! GTI, Polo GTI, Tiguan Allspace and Golf SV estate come to the market.

Volkswagen UK director Allison Jones said: “Despite the slowing market, Volkswagen continues to perform strongly in the UK. The brand is undergoing the biggest product offensive in its history to date, with highly appealing, class-leading models debuting in our Retailer showrooms.

“Combine this sophisticated new product range with our focus on the customer experience – especially through our award-winning Blended Retailing – and advances in both connectivity and e-mobility, and the future for Volkswagen in the UK looks very exciting.”
