Volkswagen has announced an expansion to the range of its new ID.3 electric car, which includes more affordable options and a long-range version.
First deliveries of the firm’s important new EV, which sits on bespoke underpinnings designed just for electric vehicles, started last month. However all versions to date have been high-spec 1ST Edition models, which cost nearly £36,000.
But Volkswagen has now introduced more choice to the ID.3, including a sub-£30,000 model known as the Life, which still has a 263-mile range thanks to its 58kWh battery. Standard equipment is still generous, though, including a 10-inch touchscreen, climate control and heated seats.
The next trim available is Business, which gains matrix LED headlights, a reversing camera and keyless entry, and costs £33,720. The Family model (from £34,650) brings a panoramic sunroof and a variable boot floor.
Those favouring design should choose the Style (from £34,180), which offers the same kit as the Family, but misses out on dual-zone climate control and the aforementioned boot floor.
Following this is the Tech (£36,190), which brings additional safety kit, a head-up display and upgraded sound system, while the top-spec ‘Max’ gains sports suspension and progressive steering.
For those wanting a longer range, the Tour is the version to go for, as it adds a larger 77kWh battery, which increases the range to 336 miles – the longest of any car costing less than £40,000.
All prices are inclusive of the government’s £3,000 electric car grant, with order books for the expanded range set to open next week, and deliveries following before the end of the year.
More affordable versions are set to join the ID.3 range in 2021, with lower outputs and a smaller battery pack bringing down the price.
