Volkswagen ID. EV teased ahead of pre-orders opening next week

The German firm’s eagerly-awaited standalone EV has been showcased again on social media.

Volkswagen has revealed a further teaser of its new electric car, ahead of pre-ordering open on May 8.

Called the ID., the Golf-sized hatchback is the first in the German manufacturer’s ID. all-electric range which will head-up its EV offensive.

Based on previous concepts that have been shown over the past few years, we can also expect an electric saloon, campervan, crossover and potentially even a dune buggy.

The teaser of a ‘near-production prototype’ provides few clues that we didn’t know already, although it highlights the car’s new LED lighting signature as well as its sloping roofline.

Volkswagen UK’s website currently has a countdown to clock to when pre-orders open at 12:10pm on May 8, with high demand expected for the ID.

The model will be revealed in full at September’s Frankfurt Motor Show, with production of the model set to start before the end of this year.

Jurgen Stackman, Volkswagen’s board member for sales, told Auto Express in March: “Customers who want to be among the very first ID. owners can make a down payment to secure an early production slot.

“I think it not improbable that the launch edition will already have sold out before the ID. is unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show.”

Prices are yet to be announced, but expect it to start from around £25,000, with the option of several battery packs likely to be available.
