Volvo announces pricing for tuned performance hybrids

The new Polestar Engineered add additional performance and sportier styling to plug-in hybrids.

Volvo has announced pricing for three new flagship ‘Polestar Engineered’ models, which are based on the T8 plug-in hybrid models.

The ‘Polestar Engineered’ package is now available on the S60 saloon, V60 estate and XC60 SUV, with models receiving performance and styling updates.

The upgrade sees the T8’s 2.0-litre petrol engine tuned to produce 314bhp, and when coupled with the electric motor, the power increases to 399bhp – 15bhp more than the standard T8 plug-in hybrid.

The S60 is the lightest of the trio, and it can accelerate from 0-60mph in an astonishing 4.2 seconds. However, thanks to the battery pack, a 27-mile electric range is possible – meaning there is scope for low running costs.

Further performance upgrades include either Brembo or Akebono brakes, Ohlins adjustable shock absorbers and a retuned automatic transmission.

Lightweight black alloy wheels are also added – 19-inch on the S60 and V60, and 21-inch on the XC60 – along with a black front grille surround, black chrome exhaust tips and gold-coloured accents.

The ‘Polestar Engineered’ equipment grade sits at the top of the range, and is based on the R-Design Plus and R-Design Pro trim levels, while also adding a heated steering wheel, aluminium tread plates and a Harmon Kardon sound system.

Prices for the S60, V60 and XC60 Polestar Engineered models start from £56,105, £57,205 and £64,545 respectively – with the tuned models cost around £6,000 more than the equivalent R-Design versions.

All the models are on sale now, with first deliveries expected before the end of the year.
