2020 looks more than ever to be the year manufacturers take electrified vehicles seriously, and the result is there are a lot of electric and hybrid cars to get excited about.
Here, we’re taking a look at what Czech firm Skoda will be introducing over the course of the year. Typically known for its practical and well-valued offerings, it’s likely those core values will translate over to these battery-powered and -assisted models.
Skoda Superb iV
Don’t want to wait for a plug-in Skoda? Well, you don’t have to. Just recently, the Czech firm introduced the Superb iV — a plug-in hybrid version of its immensely practical estate and saloon.
Fitted with a 1.4-litre petrol-electric powertrain, it’s said to be capable of up to 37 miles of electric driving alone and a combined range of 578 miles. When the time comes for a charge, a supplied home wallbox can provide a full top up in three and a half hours.
Skoda Citigo-e iV
Arriving imminently is the first EV from the Czech firm. The Citigo-e iV replaces internal combustion variants of the city car with a local emissions-friendly version that may well be the perfect city car.
Packed with a 36.8kWh battery, it’s capable of 164 miles on a single charge and supports charging of up to 40kW — meaning it shouldn’t take all that long to replenish either. It stands out from petrol versions with a body-coloured grille and new badging.
Skoda Octavia iV
Set to arrive in the coming months along with petrol and diesel variants of the latest Octavia, the iV brings an eco-friendly edge to this capable hatch and estate.
Utilising a slightly detuned version of the larger Superb iV’s powertrain, it matches its stablemate’s electric range of 37 miles. An impressive 600 litres of boot space is on offer for the hatch, with that rising to 640 litres for the estate.
Skoda Octavia iV vRS
Fancy a little more oomph in your Octavia? Well, the racy vRS is making the switch to plug-in power too. It takes the 1.4-litre petrol-electric powertrain and ramps power up to 242bhp and 400Nm of torque.
The result is a car capable of 0-60mph in 7.1 seconds, with a 140mph top speed said to be possible. It’s also expected to offer 37 miles of electric range, though exact efficiency figures are yet to be confirmed.
Skoda Enyaq
Very little is known about the Enyaq beyond its name at the moment, but what we do know is it will be Skoda’s first car designed from the ground up to be an electric vehicle.
Whether or not other more conventional powertrains will be offered remain to be seen, but it’s expected the Enyaq will enter the hotly-contested SUV segment.
