What’s coming from Hyundai N?

We take a look at what could be next for the South Korean manufacturer's performance arm...

Hyundai launched its N division in 2017 to a mixture of expectation and doubt from the motoring world — but its first car, the i30 N, raced straight to the front of the hot hatch pack.

The firm is now already an established figure in the performance world. It has since introduced the spectacular i30 Fastback N, while Stateside it offers the mechanically-similar Veloster N — also met with much applause.

N looks set to only grow from here though. What can we expect in the future? Read on…

Performance SUVs are quickly growing in popularity, so it’s no surprise to learn that N’s next model is almost certainly going to be a hot version of its best-selling SUV.

Though rumours are limited, the i20 N would go toe-to-toe with the Fiesta ST for the crown of small hot hatch king and will likely feature a boost-heavy petrol engine. It could arrive as early as 2020.

Halo model

Hyundai has confirmed a ‘halo’ N model is set to arrive in the next few years that will showcase the engineering might it has in its arsenal. Details are scarce, but rumours suggest the car will not be based on an existing model — and will feature a petrol-electric hybrid powertrain that could produce in excess of 400bhp.
