What’s new on the 2019 Renault Kadjar?

How has Renault strengthened the Kadjar’s appeal further?

Since the Kadjar crossover debuted in 2015, it has gone on to become one of Renault’s best-selling models.

The mid-sized crossover has since racked up nearly 500,000 sales, and given its success it’s important that Renault keeps it up-to-date in this competitive class.

So just three years after releasing it, Renault facelifted the Kadjar to fit in more with its new range of cars – many of which had been updated in that time.

Here are the top features on the latest car, which arrived in showrooms at the start of 2019.

A revised look

According to customer surveys, Renault says that the Kadjar’s styling that is the main attraction to buyers, so it’s important that the updated model’s looks continue to be a draw for consumers.

The French firm has certainly managed that, with the Kadjar arguably being one of the best-looking cars in its class with flowing lines and good proportions.

One highlight of the new car is its fresh lighting signature, which carried over the C-shaped look seen on many of its cars. It’s duplicated at the front and rear, while high-spec models benefit from full LED headlights, along with LED rear lights and fog lights – giving the Kadjar a bold look on the road.

It also benefits from a wider grille with new chrome inserts, along with revised bumpers to help differentiate the crossover from its predecessor.

Improved focus on quality

With more manufacturers seeking to make their cars feel more premium, Renault has also had to step its game up when it comes to the Kadjar’s interior.

This, first of all, has to come from comfort, with the Kadjar now being fitted with redesigned seats, which also aim to also reduce fatigue on long journeys.

Renault has also introduced new interior ambiances and materials – each improving the quality of the cabin. The marque has added satin chrome detailing to the cabin, which also enhances the overall look of the cabin.

It adopts a series of new engines

One of the biggest changes to the revised Kadjar is the new range of engines offered with the model.

Let’s start with the new turbocharged 1.3-litre petrol engine, which is available with either 138bhp or 158bhp – it’s badged as the TCe 140 and TCe 160. It’s also an engine that is widely used in a number of Mercedes models, too.

Buyers can also choose a newly introduced 113bhp 1.5-litre diesel engine – the most efficient engine in the range. It’s able to return up to a claimed 67.2mpg, with low CO2 emissions of 117g/km.

Improved touchscreen

Renault has fitted the Kadjar with its R-Link 2 infotainment system, which is a big step forward compared to the previous system used.

It’s different to most manufacturers in the sense that it’s seamlessly integrated into the dashboard – not breaking up any of the lines in the cabin.

Renault has improved the sensitivity of the system and given the system a brighter display, which helps to minimise glare on sunny days. With Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity also included, it also improves the system’s appeal further.
