What's coming from Citroen in 2019?

The French brand is looking to continue the success of 2018, with 2019 expected to include more quality products

Citroen produces some of the funkiest looking cars currently available, with unique design aspects such as the distinctive airbumps making their mark on the British motoring market. 2018 saw some rather interesting models revealed, such as the C5 Aircross and C4 Cactus – both of which continue in the same vein as the 2017 C3 in terms of looks and finish.

But what does 2019 have in store for the famous French brand? We take a look…

C5 Aircross goes on sale

The largest SUV currently made by Citroen will be making its market debut in Europe at the start of 2019. Having already been on sale in China from 2017, the French brand will be making the large five-seater flagship available to the continent – with more than 1,500 orders already being placed.

UK customers will be receiving units from February with order books opening earlier in December – with February 4 seeing the model make its debut on British forecourts. Starting from £23,225, the C5 Aircross will feature the latest tech on its base level options – with a plug-in hybrid option to follow at the start of 2020.

Sub-brand DS to release 3 Crossback

With manufacturers focusing more on SUV-style models, Citroen sub-brand DS will be reinvigorating its most compact option with a Crossback version. The DS3 Crossback offers styling close to the 2018 DS7 but in a more compact package – with the large front grille, sharp lines and intricate touches throughout only adding to the ‘avant-garde’ ethos of the brand.

Revealed at the 2018 Paris Motor Show, 2019 will see the compact SUV-style model make its debut on the market – with prices expected to start from upwards of £20,000.

World champion joins WRC effort

Yes, okay this isn’t road-car related, but the Citroen WRC team will be getting current world champion Sebastien Ogier as part of its effort for the 2019 season. The Frenchman, who has won the World Rally Championship six times consecutively during his time at Volkswagen and M-Sport, so will be hoping to continue his streak with the dual-chevron next year. Having started his top-level rallying career at Citroen, the Frenchman and his co-driver Julian Ingrassia will look to take Citroen back to the top of the rallying tree.

New saloon?

Citroën are expected to launch a new large saloon to replace the C5 and C6 in 2019 or 2020. Early on this year, CEO Linda Jackson confirmed the new car will will stand out from rivals by bringing "something different" to the class norm. The car is expected to follow the design cues of the C-Experience Concept, revealed at the 2016 Paris Motor Show.
