We say Sharp looks, reasonable practicality, tempting prices, some superb powertrains but a rather underhwelming drive.Performance The 1.6-litre 156bhp turbo petrol is the most popular - and by far the best - but there's also a 2.0-litre diesel and 2.0-litre petrol. All are powerful enough to provide a few thrills and the diesel is relatively frugal - but the 156 THP makes the most of the RCZ.Emissions A middle-of-the-road 139g/km from the diesel and 159g/km from the petrol. Fuel economy is average but it is a sporty coupe and concessions have to be made.Driving The Peugeot RCZ corners well and the handling is responsive. However, the downside is the suspension, which can be a bit firm, particularly on UK roads.Feel The diesel in particular is very refined. Wind and engine noise is kept to a minimum and it does well to feel insulated.Space It’s a 2+2 but, like many coupes with the promise of seating four, there isn’t much room in the back for tall passengers or those with longer legs. The boot is small but well-shaped.Equipment Sports seats, air con and rear parking sensors come as standard. The GT level has a high level of equipment and a more premium feel. Not Audi standard, but good enough.Price Starting from £20,000, you generally pay twice as much for a car that looks this good. Residuals should be good too because of the desirability factor and when was the last time you could say that about a Peugeot?Quality The interior trim is of sufficient quality and it all looks well put together. Peugeot has, understandably, pulled out all the stops with the RCZ to make it feel more premium.Safety ESP is offered as standard along with four airbags. Designed for a top safety rating, the RCZ shouldn’t pose any problems in this regard.Pros One of the best looking Peugeot’s ever made and more than a match for the Audi TT because of its lower price and decent level of equipment.Cons It’s essentially a two-seater – space is at a premium in the back.Alternatives Audi TT, Volkswagen Scirroco
