Renault has unveiled a new powertrain for its electric line-up that will debut on the Zoe hatchback.

The R110 powertrain comes with 107bhp and is the most powerful motor setup provided to Renault and smart vehicles.

Based on the R90 power unit, it comes with the same torque – 225Nm – meaning the same responsiveness during acceleration as before, but added power – 15bhp – means better performance and a higher top speed than with the next-powerful option.

Renault Zoe assistant programme director Elisabeth Duval said: “Thanks to this power boost, ZOE is even more responsive and versatile when used for journeys out of town. In addition to being able to enjoy the pleasure of driving a Zoe, drivers will also benefit from the longest range available for a mass-market electric car.”

This new version of the Zoe will come with the latest Android Auto update for Renault’s R-Link infotainment system and a new exterior colour – Aconite purple – which will be available from the Dynamique Nav trim level. A purple trim pack will also be available when the model becomes available to order in spring.

Prices will be announced closer to when order books open, with deliveries beginning in the summer.

The R110 unit will be available in the Kangoo Z.E., Master Z.E. and smart electric drive models in due course.
