Could Samsung’s amazing ‘Safety Truck’ end road collisions?

Anyone who’s ever had to try and overtake a large lorry on a single-carriageway road will know just how nerve-wracking and dangerous it can be.

In order to combat the number of collisions and fatalities caused by overtaking on the roads, Korean tech giant Samsung has come up with an ingenious new solution dubbed the ‘Safety Truck’.

Samsung states that the Safety Truck was inspired by the high number of fatal collisions in Argentina, where it’s estimated that nearly one person dies in a traffic accident every single hour.

Of those fatalities, 80 per cent of those happen on roads and the vast majority involve attempts to overtake on the country’s numerous single-carriageway roads, according to the company’s data.

Using a set of wireless cameras installed on the front bumper, Samsung’s Safety truck displays a live feed of the road ahead to four screens mounted on the rear doors of the vehicle.

Essentially turning the vehicle transparent, it allows drivers to see exactly what’s coming in their direction without the need for risky manoeuvres, and even features a built-in night vision mode.

Simple but effective, the Safety Truck is still firmly in the project stage, however Samsung states that it’s committed to getting the technology on the road in the near future following further tests.
