Mercedes achieves record sales and customer satisfaction up

May was a record month for Mercedes, with sales of SUVs more than doubled by the introduction of the GLC.

Mercedes has scored a double victory, with a record amount of sales for May and a move up the rankings in the J.D. Power UK customer satisfaction survey.

Global sales of 170,625 meant Mercedes sold 12.9 per cent more cars than any May in its history, with record sales in Europe and Asia-Pacific, as well as being the market leader in the USA, Japan, Canada, Australia and Taiwan. Mercedes has sold an impressive 818,175 cars between January and May.

Mercedes has been on a model offensive as late, with compact cars including the A-Class, B-Class, CLA and GLA accounting for 53,618 sales. But, even that figure is less than the contribution of SUVs – one of the fastest areas of growth in the marketplace – with 58,517 sales.

Importantly, in the UK sales of Mercedes SUVs more than doubled with the introduction of the small GLC SUV, filling a gap between the GLA and larger GLE where customers previously had to turn to rivals including the BMW X3 and Audi Q3.

Customer satisfaction up six places

In the J.D. Power UK customer satisfaction survey, Mercedes shot up by 18 points and six places compared with 2015.

Gary Savage, CEO of Mercedes-Benz UK Limited, said: “This year’s fantastic result in the J.D. Power study is a true reflection of our network’s unwavering commitment to delivering outstanding customer service.  Our customers expect the highest, professional standards from our Mercedes-Benz dealers and these results show their hard work to make the ownership experience as enjoyable and reliable as the cars themselves is paying off.”
