The Fisker Karma is back, but with a new name

The Fisker Karma is being resurrected under a new name thanks to a company which has taken over the original, bankrupt makers of the hybrid sports saloon.

The Fisker Karma, a hybrid sports car designed by company founder Henrik Fisker, caught plenty of attention with its stylish looks and hybrid powertrain when it originally launched back in 2011. But production ended in 2012 when Fisker was forced to declare bankruptcy the same year.

Now though, the company which has taken over the remains of the Fisker brand has revived the Karma sports car, but has given the model a new name – Karma Revero.

Karma becomes the main brand name

Wanxiang, the Chinese motoring company that bought the remnants of Fisker, has decided to use Karma as the name of the brand rather than just for the name of the specific, original model.

Like the original Fisker Karma, the Karma Revero is a four-door saloon and the powertrain will be similar to the original car’s set-up. The original Karma used a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine which worked in combination with 120kW electric motors. In terms of styling, the Revero is virtually identical to the original Karma.

Production of the Revero is taking place in California, instead of Finland where Fisker originally built the hybrid. The new Karma promises to deliver better build quality than its predecessor, as well as a new electrical system, an upgraded infotainment system and other new interior materials. More details on the Karma Revero will be officially revealed next month.

The Karma Fisker has previously attracted some famous customers, including Justin Bieber and Leonardo DiCaprio. Whether the rebranded Karma Revero can pull off similar feats remains to be seen.
